I went down to Tarvin this afternoon with my little girl to see the reptiles and snakes and other animals and was dismayed to find it closed/moved. This shop has been a favourite of mine since I was a little girl when my dad took us there to re-stock his fish tanks (he had 4). and my two daughters love visiting to see the animals. It's a damn shame that it has gone!  emma seath April 11th 2009 Report this review

Please let me set the record straight for Limestar tropicals....This store was opened when most people never even heard of Marine fish!..Roger was one of the first guys to sell marines and i remember over 20 yrs ago asking him for advice..he is a great guy..Over the years this shop grew in size to become a small Zoo!!..it stocked and sold everything from fish to birds, rodents, rabbits, chinchillas, reptiles etc etc etc!!!..it was always immaculately managed and animal husbandry was always first class.... The last few yrs both Roger and Ann have reached a stage in their lives when they are no longer in a position to provide the time or workload they used too, as a result the shop has now closed and a small part of what the great Limestars tropicals will be kept alive in stamford bridge. Make no mistake in its day Limestar Tropicals was THE best place for ANYTHING!!.. it was an icon for others to follow! .....I would personally like to thank Rodger and his lovely wife Ann (who i always teased about being a double for Goldie hawn!) for a great shop and for being such honest dedicated and the most HELPFUL people i have ever met in ANY shop!! Roger would go out of his way to help and try and get you anything you needed!!...Roger not only was a trustworthy person.....HE TRUSTED YOU!!..i remember asking if he could get me 300 pounds of tufa rock....yes he said ..meet me outside the shop thur eve...true to his words he was there with a minivan loaded with me tuffa rock!...he never asked for a deposit..he trusted people..Limestars was a family run and family trusting shop...end of!!!! anyone wants too disagree here's my email..''quantumforce123@googlemail.com''  Colin Sefton March 4th 2009 Report this review

I am absolutely amased at some of the rude and down right abusive messages. I know ann, roger, merv and everyone at the shop. I have know them since i was ten and have always been amased at how helpful and friendly they are! I have always recommended them and will continue to do so! I have had many animals from them and will always shop there! me and my new family can not wait to visit to gain more advice and knowledge on the new fish aquarium we wish to purchase from limestar! Those that have put rude comments on here I am ashamed that you are able to do so. There is expressing you views and there is abuse! you are abusing your right to express yourself and need to take a long hard look at yourselves! How rude. Looking forward to my next visit at limestar! These people are very knowledgable and friendly to all animal lovers!  charlotte mackie January 6th 2008 Report this review

I've shopped at Limestar Tropicals for more than 25 years and would always go there for advice. Roger and Ann are a fantastic double act with hearts of gold and a tremendous knowledge - sure they may be a bit eccentric but aren't we all and, as mentioned above, I'd rather get advice from normal, friendly, knowledgeable people than some spotty kid who knows nowt and just wants a sale.  Simon December 23rd 2007 Report this review

Anyway popped down none the less and what a disgrace this place is appauling animals displayed in terrible conditions dirty very unclean housing the smell of amonia from the rodent area is diabolical how on earth they can display reptiles and tortoises in these conditions is beyond me. Also, the elephant fish you talk about are only small at the moment anyway so are not a problem in a small tank. I know male betta fish need to be kept apart..but they can be kept in with other fish...on being challenged.. the answer was that he took them out of the jars every night and put them in a tank with seperaters, and that the RSPCA had been round and that it was ok . IF THIS IS GOOD FISH KEEPING THEN IM A PSEUDOTROPHUS DAEMONSONI...... there were also approx 20 elephantnose fish in a tank of about 10 gallons ! need i say more..   February 17th 2007 Report this review

After a 10 year break in fishkeeping I finally made my return trip to b&j aquatics Aka Something Fishy. It was a visit that made me realise just how inferior the other LFS's in the area are. The massive selection of Tropical and Coldwater fish took my breath away. Even down to the little blue curtains on the gaps between the tanks everything has been well thought out. I have never seen such colourful and healthy looking fish anywhere else. In most of the other shops I notice a lot of dead fish floating about, at Something Fishy that is certainly not the case. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. Well done Something Fish. Keep up the good work.  Andy Oleszczuk February 5th 2007 Report this review

Creative Aquariums? Creative accounting more like! They charged me £72.50 for a plastic piece of fake pond poo and threatened to throw my granny from the roof of tescos if I didn't kiss a koi on the botty!! Savages!!   July 28th 2007 Report this review

The Koi are obviously Southern and, far from aquatic, were exstatic!   July 28th 2007 Report this review

I regularly visit this shop and have purchased nearly all of my fish and accessories from dougie who is a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable man. I have bought fish from other suppliers suffered more losses through buying elsewhere than I have at Wilmslow. I have not lost any fish that have come from this store and would recomend them to anyone. If it isnt in the shop ask and they usually can supply. Through Dougies advise and assistance I have changed from tropicals to marines. The advise I have received has been all very good and accurate.  Belinda Daltri June 25th 2008 Report this review

Thought this was a great little shop with some nice looking well kept discus and (while i dont keep marines) the marines looked great too. Went a second time and was less impressed with the health of the discus... I did see a few dead fish in one tank and when pointed out they replaced the price stickers with a not for sale sticker so did seem to care (although how long that sticker remained i don't know). Have a nice selection of large plecs as well!  Andrew Middleton August 31st 2007 Report this review
