Gosport & Fareham

Bridgemary Aquatics
64, Brewers Lane
Gosport Hampshire PO13 0LA
Tel: 01329 231981

The all-Aquatic shop in Brewers Lane Bridgemary sells a wide range of Community Tropical fish and an assortment of fancy Coldwater fish (all on display in 68 aquariums). Also on display are a selection of ‘true’ aquatics plants and a wide choice of Water Lilies and marginal plants for ponds.
Although the store looks deceptively small from the outside at the back of the shop is the Koi House holding 17 ponds ranging in sizes from 120 to 800gals. These are stocked with a variety of Japanese Asian and Israeli Koi. plus the usual Goldfish Shubunkins Sarasa Comets and Orfe.
The shop stocks a wide range of equipment and accessories from well known manufacturers for both the pond and aquarium enthusiast ranging from complete filtration systems for ponds down to spare parts for air pumps. A number of complete aquariums and cabinets are also available for viewing. It really is surprising the amount of stock held and if you can’t find what you’re looking for Mr Parker and his assistant Carl Bartlett are always on hand to help or answer any questions.
Bridgemary Aquatics pride themselves on the cleanliness of their tanks and the health of their fish.
Since taking over the business in 1998 'Blue' Parker has earned a reputation for offering accessories at affordable prices and a wide and excellent selection of fish from exceptionally clean aquariums.
Being a member of The Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association and abiding by their ‘Customer Charter’ ensures high customer standards and an high level of service are met
They are open seven days a week from 10am closing at 5.30pm on Monday to Friday at 5pm on Saturdays and at 1pm on Sunday.
This shop appears to have closed down its definitely not in Brewers lane anymore maybe its moved somewhere else. Perhaps someomne could enlighten. The phone line is dead as well.  steve bell March 28th 2010 Report this review

Can only speak for tropical fish as that's what I keep: Good quality fish and very well kept. Wide range and many tanks. Excellent knowledge and very helpful people. Shop is like the TARDIS lol (looks small but in fact is quite large)! It is well stocked with all items for your aquarium and are Jewul stockists- sold me a lighting unit at a very reasonable price the same day mine blew and then ordered in their replacement as opposed to many places ordering first delaying needed lighting in your tank. Never had a problem with the fish although it takes them a while to order fish in if you want something in particular (but at least they are able to do it and they are worth having patience for). Only place I've found that sells New Life Spectrum Optimum food (very good). You may think that's fussy but I like it (and so do the fish!) as it contains garlic (to aid against parasites) and is hormone free. I actually live in Portsmouth and travel specifically to this store just because of their high standards and customer care. For example, they had no hesitation phoning companies for me for advice on a particular chemical-free medicine I wanted. I regularly do the 'aquatic circuit' in Fareham and Gosport and I always end up coming back to Bridgemary. The others don't compare. I challenge you to find any disease in their tanks (that isn't being dealt with if you do)! They always put the fish's health first and I like that. Save your money buying from places like Maidenhead that take 'free fish' from the general public and put them straight in their tanks without quarantine. You will get strang healthy fish that won't die (if your tank is ok).  Amanda February 27th 2009 Report this review

Got tired of looking everywhere for decent fish. All rubbish! Looked at Abbey AND Garsons and very disappointed, especially with Garsons 'special' lighting etc; clearly to influence non-experienced buyers that they are good fish. Most diseased. I keep coming back to Bridgemary Aquatics as the best place to go, even though I order fish to come in and they delay constantly on ordering them. Don't go to Maidenhead in Havant, they have changed hands and their common fish (guppies, mollies etc) are in poor condition and are diseased and die quickly.   February 27th 2009 Report this review

Poor Poor Poor, same issue as review 1 at the top here, was mis-sold a water feature, pump was not adequate, they refused to refund the pump or the entire water feature. The offered to split the cost difference on a more expensive pump (which the assured me would work, but were not confident to come at test fit it first!), refused the split offer as I can get MUCH cheaper online or even from other local garden centres. Would never use again nor recommend to anyone who asks. They even stated that I could report to Trading Standards if I was not happy!! .. the cheek. Also when we were discussing the option of a different pump they tried to sell the a tube adapter to go with it for 5 Pound when it was clearly priced at 4 Pound.  Ross April 17th 2011 Report this review

Popped in for advice on a new pump for a 1.5m fountain. It looked a little small but the man waxed lyrical about his 25 yrs experience so who was I to argue? Came away with a Hozelock Cascade 700 for £49.99. Looked on the web and found they are readily available for as little as £19.99. Low and behold the pump was too lightwieght. Went back and was told that no refund could be given because I had 'used it'. I could have a credit note or take their recommendation and go for the Cascade 1000. The 1000 was on sale for £69.99 so we split the difference and I paid £10 extra. Got home...no good. Also found the 1000 is £21.49 from pondpumpsdirect.com. I've ordered a Cascade 3000 online for £49.95 (£150 in DH Water Gardens) and will go back for my credit note. Never again.  Nathan Sayer September 23rd 2008 Report this review

Changed manager recently and have disappointed me. The staff are knowledgeable but their guppies, mollies, swordtails etc aren't in good condition. It's hit and miss whether you get a fish that doesn't die or is diseased. Less common fish are better but still aren't strong and healthy. They keep their tanks fairly well, albeit a little overstocked, but seem blind to whitespot, dead fish etc. Bought 18 cherry shrimps from there at 3 for £12 (expensive) and all died. Poor quality and no, not my tank - I have many shrimp and am established and experienced. A friend bought mollies there for her daughter and they were aggressive(?!). Don't be pushed into buying expensive plants - I bought a few to try them out and all just died. Went back to complain about shrimp and plants and found all theirs had died too. There are cheaper yet better places to go.   February 27th 2009 Report this review

Very good range of healthy fish but I would agree that you do get ripped off a bit. This was the nearest place that stocked the marine service kit form my biorb which I urgently needed and it cost me £20 when normally it is around about £7 everywhere else. They claimed though that £7 was below trade price which was obviously a lie.   May 16th 2008 Report this review
