They've got some nice Silver Dollars and.....well not very much else to say other than shame they're in tanks of such poor maintenance. Tanks could all do with a clean, the lighting can't really get through to the tank as there is so much algae growing on the glass covers. I've been popping into this establishment for about three years now, just hoping someone has taken it over or at least overhauled the existing tanks. Every tank seems to have an Eheim Aquaball (great internal filter) but no external filtration system. Generally looks like lack of maintenance of the tanks I would have to find something very rare or feel very sorry for the poor critter to buy it.  SimonD December 28th 2009 Report this review

Chris and co have done a outstanding job of revamping the place! Tanks look remarkably cleaner than last year..Chris is always helpful and offers suberp advice..if they dont stock a particular fish or for u oddball fans..he will do his utmost to try and order you some. He has deliveries a few times a week from different suppliers so theres always something new from week to week. Whether you go in to buy something or not its always nice to be made welcome and if hes not busy he will chat u about the hobby. Ive had alot of fish from Chris with no problems at all. His tanks for sale may not have a vast choice but are alot cheaper than others in leicester!! With Chris u can always ask him to order whatever u want which im sure will be cheaper than anywhere else. I highly reccomend this friendly shop.  wendy March 15th 2010 Report this review

I have shopped at Friends in Soggy Homes for many years, and not really had much of a problem with the fish, but the staff can leave a lot to be desired. One member of staff was telling me that I could not have more than one Angel as they would fight, this was contradicted by the woman owner, who tore him off a strip in front of me. Also they seem to be stocking a lot of small fish, and very little medium fish. I have noticed the tanks are not always clean and sometimes there is a nasty smell in the shop. The prices have recently gone up compaired with other shops, but what gets my goat is that they add all your purchases up on a bit of paper and you do not know what the idividual charge for an item is, they do not give an itemised receipt and I have often come away thinking I have been overcharged. I mentioned how old fashioned this method was and they shrugged their shoulders and said thats the way it's always been done. Sometimes the owner is very abrupt and grumpy. I am thinking of going to a more modern shop as they are now getting on my nerves.  betty may February 7th 2010 Report this review

This now the only shop I will use, the lady owner is very knowledgeable, gives sound advice and will not sell you expensive unnecessary treatments for each and every minor ailment, if you want to learn how to maintain your tank using good husbandry, ensure your tank is well balanced without accidentally purchasing inappropriate fish and buy your stock at competitive prices then this is definitely the best place to use. Having visited this shop many many times I have to say, the display systems are a little old creating a negative impression. However on closer inspection the tanks are always very clean and the fish stock always look healthy. By asking the right questions I am yet to make a bad purchase from this store!  Jim Concar December 5th 2009 Report this review

Last time I went to this shop, most of the tanks where murky looking like they had over fed them, and some fish were off colour. Worst of all was a member of staff who tried to sell a Flying Fox to me stating it was a Siamensis the true algae eater. Then they said they both eat algae and will do the same job. I was gob smacked and said "but the flying fox gets bigger, is a scale eater and are not ideal for a community aquarium". After I said that they became quiet and I walked out.  Jane Doe January 16th 2009 Report this review

Friends In Soggy Homes- We wanted a tank for tropical fish, they sold us a cold water tank and said that all we needed was a heater to make it into a tropical tank. The undergravel filter that was sold with the tank didn't work properly and the fish ended up being poisoned. After spending over £150 at that shop, buying the tank, heater, fish etc and getting poor advice on everything, we'll definately NOT be returning.  rob johnson April 14th 2008 Report this review

Hi , I do a lot of shopping at clearwater for marine fish and live rock so far its been all good exzcept ive lost 1 fish uncompatable for the fish i had in the tank.It has been ok in the past buying products and sometimes though you get the feeling of money in their pocket and go home. I have seen some dead fish in the marine section of the shop and i think is their water quality upto scratch so what i do if buying from there , NEVER PUT THEIR WATER IN YOUR TANK AND YOUR FISH SHOULD BE OK. If all the chemistry is right, and my tank is 0.3 -0.4 in salt and always fine in my tank . Any problems look at youtube for L A guys you will get some good transfering tips. And make sure you know what fish you want for your tank as if the fish u may get your not happy with they will try refund half the price thanks Mii Mii  Mii Mii April 16th 2009 Report this review

Bought a 15 polyp Blastamussa for £25 quid from this shop about a month ago. Chap chucked in a Monti frag for a tenner. I arrived at shop five minutes before they closed but they stayed open for me to have a good look round. I remember thinking at the time that the water quality in the tanks was crystal. My tank at home is fine so I will be going back for another bargain when I'm next in the area. Very happy customer.  Richard Bartrop March 28th 2009 Report this review

Hi - I used to work at Clearwater Aquatics in Leicester (2004 - 2005) in the Marine Section. I have to totally disagree with the comments about the husbandary of the marine fish - unless things have changed considerably since i was there. I personally checked all parameters of the water twice a week, SG on a daily basis and the health of the live stock was the most important aspect of the job. Yoosaf, firoz and Shabir are do know their stuff - perhaps you should take your time to listen to them. All of the fish died that you bought from them - Then I suggest you look very carefully at your set up and do not slag off a retailer when clealry you or your techniques are at fault. Clearwater is one of the best retailers around - i know due to the fact that i have spent £8000 + there - and not had 1 death, and also I worked there due to the fatnastic staff and service. There is a lot to learn from clearwater - they are one of the best in the business. I would not hesitate to go anywhere else.  Richard June 3rd 2008 Report this review

Yes, i agree with the person above about Clearwater aquatics,i also used to use this shop for my marine supplies, fish, supplies etc, but found the shop owner to smarmy for my liking, he would brag on about how good his stuff was and after a time i felt quite intimidated and belittled when i had a question about a perticular species about visiting his shop.I have a run a successful reef tank for over 4 yrs with no problems except every fish bought from this shop died, i urge anyone else who keeps marine aquaria, BEWARE OF THIS SHOP.   April 10th 2008 Report this review

Be carefull if you buy from Clearwater Aquatics, especially the Marine fish, it would appear that their husbandry skills leave a lot to be desired, I checked his water quality when I purchsed some fish recently it was worse than an amateur fishkeeper with an excuse. This outlet could be ripping you off, they are all smiles and pretend to care about their livestock. DONT BE MISLEAD, your marine fish like mine will probably die within days or weeks, probably due to pathogens in their system, and talking about this they do not quarantine their fish in a seperate system so any pathogens and diseases on the fish that do survive will probably transfer to your fish. You have been warned BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK, if you do succomb to their false charm then demand he tests the water of the system in which the fish is in. I am a genuine aquarist, next time you are in this excuse for an aquatic shop ask the other marine customers how many of their fish have survived.  genuine aquarist January 23rd 2008 Report this review
