Viscum Water Gardens & Aquatics I find it astonishing that people are being so critical about Viscum. Having been a satisfied Viscum customer for many years now, I have seen the shop evolve and modernise to adapt itself to survive the modern day hardships that its competitors haven't. The new look Tropical House always holds a varied and exotic selection whilst the Marine House always has fish that cannot be found in other, similar stores. Both Joel and Warwick have excellent knowledge of fish, whilst Paul is always happy to help where necessary. Similarly, Viscum offers a home installation service for newcomers to the Aquarium world, which helps to absolve any concerns you have doing it yourself. Having seen some of the negative feedback below, it is apparent that people are looking to shift the blame for their own errors and fish handling shortfalls onto a well established shop whose staff can always be relied upon. I shall continue to use Viscum for my fish supplies and appreciate the free advice too. Charlie November 3rd 2011 Report this review Rating:10 Hi Jase, just read some of your comments and been in stiches, its funny how you make out to be knowledgable on koi keeping after having kept them for less than a year, koi keeping as a whole takes many many years to perfect. Anyone with a slight bit of genuine knowledge would realise how niave you are. I've been keeping koi for over 35 years and regulary shop at viscum, wayside and cascade, and have done for a long time. NONE of these shops have bad fish, wayside and viscum are both good at what they do, telling people to up there game and visit wayside is laughable, both these shops use the SAME suppliers and SAME importers for there fish, both have to odd few bits of jap koi through but nothing too major, both shops fish are mostly from isreal, the two main buyers from both shops have been on buying trips together in the past! What you also fail to understand is the grading system amongst koi, a jap A grade will always be of a higher quality than a Isreali A Grade, so bare that in mind when comparing stock between two outlets. Its morons like you what get good shops a bad name October 25th 2011 Report this review Rating:8 i have first got into ponds 6 or 7 months ago through my dad. we went to viscum knowing very little, asking for a specific pump. the staff just dismised this and were very pushy to offload a no brand jobbie that im afraid has ended up in the rain barrel. a few weeks later i built my own, and returned to viscum for a liner. the guy showed me a cheap one, an intermediate one and one he recomended, a maxipool. i went for the maxipool. He offered me coffe which i accepted and he lead me away. mins later he returned with my liner which WAS NOT A MAXIPOOL it didnt say it allover it like maxipool do. anyway a few weeks ago i was ready to stock and i thaught lets giv em another go. well all the fish were poor, overstocked, over priced and some were floating dead. the koi ( i know a considerable amount more now) were all low grade garden center stuff with notices saying class a and class aa. at the price of a good tancho showa or a v good sanke. steer clear unles you dont mind buying cheap no brand stuff at top flight prices, and dont mind the wipeout of your pond through disease. its not worth the cheap coffe. dont confuse politenes with quality. instead try wayside watergardens at oldcoats for run of the mill or kitsukoi if your looking to up your game a little. jason b June 9th 2011 Report this review Rating:1 I hate to read the comments about them pushing sales....IT IS A SHOP!!!! That is what they are there for. They give excellent advice and if you dont want to buy anything, you can always say no. Viscum are happy to help you with anything, but if you want "so called hassle" free advice, go to the library or use Google. I honestly cant believe that some people have complained that they went into the shop gave them very little idea of what equipment they had and blamed the Viscum for not knowing that they didnt have a heater! What idiot buys animals they have no knowledge on????? I have marine fish and buy my stock from there, they have even given me advice on other shops that may have a particular coral I wanted as they didnt have it in stock (not another viscum). All of my corals and fish are healthy and I am very happy with the prices. P.s, if they are on their lunch, at least they are still in the shop ready to help....and they often ask if you would like a drink while you browse the shop, (maybe another sales tactic, but its a free drink!) Noggin June 2nd 2011 Report this review Rating:10 I went to viscum ath the beging of the month as i wanted to start keeping marine fish. i told them i had a 20ltr tank and asked what i would need to get started and was sold some live rock live sand and water and this would be all i needed and that i should bring some water back the NEXT day and have some fishso i went and bought some a clown and a emperor cardinal. two week later the cardinal died i took some water to be tested and told its all good but must have been stressed which i expected and bought a juv regal tang and blood shrimp the tang lasted 6 days. Before it died i called them asking for advicethe said turn the light off earlier and do regular water changes with the water i bougght from them. what is wrong with this is that as the never told me i needed a heater when told them all i had was a tank and pump turning the light of sooner ment the only sorce of heat in the tank was gettin shut off. with the water changes i was told i could use the water i bought from them at the start pre-mixed but adding more salt water with out any RO was again making the salinity sky high both these bits of advice prob ensured my tang died i have found a super helpful website www.thesaltybox.com getting fantastic advice and also very friendly. viscum is only intrested in getting your money and not what is best for your fish steer well clear go anywhere else u can. Ask for Joel when in the shop and he will help you, and satisfy your needs when needing any products to do with you tank or pond! They always seem to be open late even with the diversions out side the road. I would recommend this place what ever you are after. Also, i have noticed that all the prices have dropped in accordance with the credit crunch! Bonus! Ralph May 9th 2009 Report this review Rating:1 Outdoor vats are way overstocked. All koi (hundreds) were either lying on the bottom with fins clamped, rolled over on their sides dying, or dead. These people should not be allowed to keep/sell fish. Bags floating in vats PACKED full of fish, which were obviously stressed, and some clearly dead/dying. When fish are like this disease strikes! I think these people import and add straight to sale vats, no quarentine. I asked for a complete water test kit from them, and the one they 'pushed' on me didn't even test ammonia. Be aware also that their koi are from israle, where they have been vaccinated against KHV. This doesn't mean that they cannot still carry the virus and infect fish bred elsewhere. Quality koi imported from japan, they have a vigerous quarantine setup and all fish are in perfect health. Having recently got interested in koi i have visited every place i could find that stocks koi around south yorkshire. Koi polloi was one of the last places i found and only when seeing how good they are did i realise how bad some other places really are. Lovely couple who own it, always welcome you, they have helped me through every stage of my pond build without ever trying to force sales on me. They are extremly knowledgable in all aspects of koi. Anyone who is reading this, please take my advice and visit them. Also they do some fantastic deals, i purchased an eazy pod from them for around £100.00 cheaper than any where else i have seen. This may sound like a sales pitch but i'm just a hobbiest who has found out first hand the value of finding somewhere you can get good products, sound advice and most imporatntly quality japanese koi. | Tanks A Lot Queens Courtyard Sunnybar Doncaster South Yorkshire DN1 1LY Tel: 01302 343778 The male, who I am guessing is the owner was very rude in his approach to me and my partner. First the shop smelt with the owner not helping the smell. On the selection of my fish the male dove straight in there without asking which I wanted, the fish he did choose looked like it was on it's last fin. The second fish I purchased the male was having a hard time getting the fish out of the net to which he took to flicking the net to force the fish out. The owner was lucky the fish was still alive. When questioned about a gravel cleaner he showed me one which looked like a DIY situation. I also asked if I could have some plant fertiliser which he then replied they do not stock and the plants do not need them. However on the way out he was soon dropping plant fertiliser on the plants they were selling. It was just a bad experience, as for the fish I am yet know if they will survive.
